Fall Hair Trend Predictions

Straight from the runways of New York Fashion Week, here are our Fall/Winter 2013 hair trend predictions:

Christian Sirano and Carolina Herrera were among the many designers who opted for pulled back hair as their runway hair looks. Both showed hair parted down the middle and perfectly slicked back into braided buns. For fall/winter 2013, this beauty look is perfectly transitional. DIY Nail Polish Ring

Get crafty with your nail polish and use it for things other than your nails!

What you’ll need:

1.       Glass jewels (you can find these at a craft store)

2.       Your favorite nail polish colors and a clear top coat (shop our nail polishes here)

3.       Ring blank (you can also find this at a craft store)

4.       Very strong glue (used for glass/metal)

STEP 1 – Apply a coat of top coat to the jewel and let it dry

STEP 2 – Apply a coat of nail polish over the top coat and let it dry

STEP 3 – Choose another color polish and apply a coat over the last coat

STEP 4 – Let polish dry and apply another color coat (it is up to you how many colors you want to include on your ring)

*Remember to only apply the polish to one side of the glass jewel*

STEP 5 – Make sure the polish is completely dry. Apply glue to the back of the jewel and secure the ring blank.

And there you have it – a fabulous and unique nail polish ring!

Three Ways to get Heatless Curls

Give your hair a little break and save the heat for your fingers and toes this fall and winter. Here are three effective ways to get heatless curls.

Rollers:

Before there were fancy flat irons and curling irons, there were rollers. We may think this is an old school hair styling trick but rollers actually give hair a healthy and full look. Plus, rollers help to cut styling time in half and give you bouncy, vibrant curls as the end result. *Ceramic rollers can also be used. Although they contain heat, the heat is far less intense than that of a flat iron or curling iron. 

• Before bed, part your hair into several even sections.
• Roll each section of hair with the rollers. It is optional to dampen hair before setting the rollers. (This will help hair stay in place while you sleep but is not mandatory to do in the process.)
• Sleep with rollers in overnight and in the morning take out the rollers. Style to your liking and complete the look with a little hairspray to hold the curls in place all day long.

Hair Bands:

Many of us use hair bands as a headband to keep hair out of our faces during the day but there are plenty of other uses for hair bands including creating heatless curls. This curling option can also be done before bed to cut down on styling time in the morning as well as create sassy, wavy curls that don’t require heat.

• Brush hair then put the elastic hair band around your hair. Depending on how big you want your curls, you must choose the right sized band. For example, thicker bands create thicker curls while thinner bands create thinner curls.
• Once the band is placed around your head, slightly touching your forehead, begin to take small sections of hair and wrapping them around the band one at a time. You want to loop the section of hair around and through the hair band. *To get wavier curls, dampen hair before beginning the process.
• Repeat the above step until all your hair is wrapped around the hair band.
• In the morning, remove the hair band and you will have a head full of heatless curls! Proceed to style to your liking if needed. 

Perm Paper:

Although this technique does require some heat, the perm papers work to reduce possible heat damage or other affects caused by heated styling tools. And in case you were wondering, perm papers are small strips of paper used when applying a perm, however as we see here, there are other uses for perm papers.

• Grab a handful of perm papers to have on hand while styling your hair.
• Part hair into sections and before curling each piece, place a piece of perm paper at the ends of your hair. Then fold the perm paper and curl your hair as you normally would.
• Take the curling iron out of your hair then remove the perm paper. You will still get curly results minus damaged ends.

Leopard Print Nails in a Few Easy Steps

Because leopard is the new black, we’re showing you how to get leopard print nails using your favorite nail polish and So Easy Stripe Rite nail art polish.

STEP 1

Fall 2012 Nail Polish Trends

How to get Newspaper Nails

What you’ll need

1.       Nail polish

2.       Newspaper

3.       Rubbing alcohol

4.       Base coat/Top coat

Start off with a base coat then paint your nails in a light grey, nude or white nail polish color. Other colors may be used for this nail art technique but a grey or white will help the ink from the newspaper show up on the nails much better.

Let your nails completely dry. One coat will suffice but remember to not put a top coat on yet. 

Pour rubbing alcohol into a small container or bowl and dip your nail in the alcohol for about 5 seconds so that the nail polish can absorb the alcohol. Then take a small piece of newspaper and press it on the alcohol-soaked nail for about 15 seconds. Be gentle but firm enough that the ink from the newspaper transfers to the nail.

Once you peel the newspaper away from your nail, you may need to clean up the skin a little bit from excess ink. Just use a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover to remove the left over ink.

Continue the process on each nail then seal in the newspaper ink with a top coat. A top coat is important for all manicures but especially helps maintain the newspaper nails manicure for a longer period of time. It will stop the ink from rubbing off as well as give your nails some extra shine.

This is a fun and easy nail art technique that can be done on any nail art lover. Have fun!

Fall 2012 Hair Trends

DIY Saran Wrap Nails

Here’s a fun and easy DIY nail art tutorial for creating marble nails. All you need is saran wrap and your two favorite nail polish colors!

1.       Choose two nail polish colors and pre-cut 10 small pieces of saran wrap and crumble them.  

2.       Apply the first color to the base of your nail (typically a lighter color). Apply a second coat if needed.

3.       Once the first color has completely dried, apply the second color (only one coat).

4.       Take your crumbled saran wrap pieces and lightly dab it on your nail. This will create a cool, marble looking effect.

5.       Repeat steps on desired nails.

6.       If you get excess polish on the sides of your nails, simply use a small Q-Tip dipped in nail polish remover and clean up the edges. However, to avoid this, try taping the edges of your nails before you begin painting and remove the tape once the painting process is completed.

7.       Once your nails are dry, seal it with a top coat

Then, your nails should look like this:
