Benefits of Pedicures

It's cold outside so it’s only natural that you want to keep your feet inside. However, that doesn't mean you have to stop getting pedicures for the season. We love manis and pedis and know you do too so here are a few reasons why it's good to continue to pamper your feet even in the fall and winter months.

Pedicures are relaxing
We encounter stress all year long but it seems to heighten when temperatures drop. Take some time out of your busy schedule to do something nice for yourself by getting a pedicure. When your nail tech begins to massage your feet and create a silky smooth feeling for your toes, you will instantly smile and forget about that crazy day you had at work. And don't forget you can give yourself a pedicure at home too!

Pedicures are healthy for your feet
As our feet are cooped up inside boots all season, it is important to remember to let them breathe. Of course you remove your shoes and put your feet up after a long day but they need a little more attention than that. Sweating in your shoes can cause a buildup of bacteria and can possibly cause fungus in the toenails. We certainly don't want that, do we? Well, with a pedicure, you can eliminate the risk of a bacteria buildup, keeping feet and toes nice and healthy.

Pedicures keep feet looking and feeling great
Getting your toes all dolled up with pretty polishes is quite fun and fabulous to look at but getting your heels buffed and removing all the dead skin makes your feet feel incredible! Walking becomes like air and you feel like a fresh new person.

And to top it off, at, we offer some pretty cool products that allow your feet to stay soft and smooth after a pedicure. PediSavers keep feet warm while your toes are drying plus they lock in moisture long after a pedicure. We also offer Justin Blair leopard print gel heel socks that work to repair cracked and damaged heels.

How to Dress Up Your Hair With Jewlery

If you’re in to beauty, chances are you dig fashion too. And this could mean that you have a decent jewelry collection. So we’re here to give you tips on how to transform your jewelry box into a box full of hair accessories.
Dolling up hair with jewelry is a great way to add drama to any hair style for example, you can:

Use bracelets as hair ties
Often times we see hair ties used as bracelets but the other way around can work too! If one or some of your bracelets have a little give and can be wrapped around a ponytail, try this look out. Jeweled bracelets with elastic bands will be the easiest to use. Simply secure a ponytail with a hair tie then wrap the bracelet around the base
of the ponytail to add a fun look.

Use necklaces as headbands
Much like the above option, you can use a fun, jewel-themed necklace as a headband. Leave hair down or up and once your hair is styled to your liking, add the perfect necklace to your do. Because necklaces are not essentially created for hair, you may have to secure the necklace to your hair with hair pins. A statement necklace or a choker can work great doubling as a headband for a glamorous night out.

Use broaches as hair accessories
Broaches are classic pieces that can be worn on clothes and yes, even hair! Adding a broach to an up-do adds an elegant and feminine touch, all you have to do is find the perfect broach, place the broach in the desired area of hair and secure it with hair pins. Use a broach to jazz up your hair style for any occasion.

Three Ways to get Heatless Curls

Give your hair a little break and save the heat for your fingers and toes this fall and winter. Here are three effective ways to get heatless curls.

Before there were fancy flat irons and curling irons, there were rollers. We may think this is an old school hair styling trick but rollers actually give hair a healthy and full look. Plus, rollers help to cut styling time in half and give you bouncy, vibrant curls as the end result. *Ceramic rollers can also be used. Although they contain heat, the heat is far less intense than that of a flat iron or curling iron.
  • Before bed, part your hair into several even sections.
  • Roll each section of hair with the rollers. It is optional to dampen hair before setting the rollers. (This will help hair stay in place while you sleep but is not mandatory to do in the process.)
  • Sleep with rollers in overnight and in the morning take out the rollers. Style to your liking and complete the look with a little hairspray to hold the curls in place all day long.

Hair Bands:
Many of us use hair bands as a headband to keep hair out of our faces during the day but there are plenty of other uses for hair bands including creating heatless curls. This curling option can also be done before bed to cut down on styling time in the morning as well as create sassy, wavy curls that don’t require heat.

  • Brush hair then put the elastic hair band around your hair. Depending on how big you want your curls, you must choose the right sized band. For example, thicker bands create thicker curls while thinner bands create thinner curls.
  • Once the band is placed around your head, slightly touching your forehead, begin to take small sections of hair and wrapping them around the band one at a time. You want to loop the section of hair around and through the hair band. *To get wavier curls, dampen hair before beginning the process.
  • Repeat the above step until all your hair is wrapped around the hair band.
  • In the morning, remove the hair band and you will have a head full of heatless curls! Proceed to style to your liking if needed.

Perm Paper:
Although this technique does require some heat, the perm papers work to reduce possible heat damage or other affects caused by heated styling tools. And in case you were wondering, perm papers are small strips of paper used when applying a perm, however as we see here, there are other uses for perm papers.

  • Grab a handful of perm papers to have on hand while styling your hair.
  • Part hair into sections and before curling each piece, place a piece of perm paper at the ends of your hair. Then fold the perm paper and curl your hair as you normally would.
  • Take the curling iron out of your hair then remove the perm paper. You will still get curly results minus damaged ends.

Fall 2012 Nail Polish Trends

It's officially fall and now you are really ready to start shopping for the trendiest nail colors. Here's your one-stop shopping guide to fall nail colors!

Somber Tones: Fall and winter months are notorious for Earth tones like browns and reds but this season, things seem to be getting a bit darker. A big trend on the runway for fall and winter collocations was the color oxblood, also known as deep, dark red. This color is not only making an appearance in clothing but also on nails. Other than oxblood, you can find moon-lit night inspired nail colors, better known as deep, dark blues.

                                China Glaze Up All Night

                                 Gelish Stand Out

Funky French: French nails are most commonly known as white tip nails but recently we are seeing a change of scenery in the French nail department. This spring and summer many of us toyed with multicolored tips rather than white tips and this fall tips are getting a little more creative. How about darker colors and textures on tips for the fall? For example, try a grey tip or a red tip or mix it up and use your China Glaze Magnetix tool to create a textured tip.

Nude and Pale: While dark colors remain popular, white and nude nails will also be a popular look for the fall and winter months. That’s right. Plain white nails and nude nails were seen all over the runways at fashion weeks for fall and winter presentations. As whites and nudes are typically meant for spring and summer, it seems as if all the fashion and beauty rules are being broken with this hot trend.

How to get Newspaper Nails

What you’ll need

1.       Nail polish
2.       Newspaper
3.       Rubbing alcohol
4.       Base coat/Top coat

Start off with a base coat then paint your nails in a light grey, nude or white nail polish color. Other colors may be used for this nail art technique but a grey or white will help the ink from the newspaper show up on the nails much better.

Let your nails completely dry. One coat will suffice but remember to not put a top coat on yet.

Pour rubbing alcohol into a small container or bowl and dip your nail in the alcohol for about 5 seconds so that the nail polish can absorb the alcohol. Then take a small piece of newspaper and press it on the alcohol-soaked nail for about 15 seconds. Be gentle but firm enough that the ink from the newspaper transfers to the nail.

Once you peel the newspaper away from your nail, you may need to clean up the skin a little bit from excess ink. Just use a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover to remove the left over ink.

Continue the process on each nail then seal in the newspaper ink with a top coat. A top coat is important for all manicures but especially helps maintain the newspaper nails manicure for a longer period of time. It will stop the ink from rubbing off as well as give your nails some extra shine.

This is a fun and easy nail art technique that can be done on any nail art lover. Have fun!

But this post is to remind you that staying groomed and looking great will help to ease the stresses of school. Below are a few beauty essentials that you’ll need before school begins.

Fall 2012 Hair Trends

By looking at the runways, we can tell not only what fashions will be trendy each season but also which hairstyles will be “in”. And by the looks of the models from New York to Paris and even Milan, the two biggest hair trends for fall 2012 will be precise pony’s and slick, straight locks.

Perfect, pulled back ponytails will be all the rage for fall and winter 2012. This means you’ll need to load up on hair spray, hair ties and a brush that prevents frizz and adds shine. You will want to reduce the amount of fly-aways in order to create the perfectly slicked back look by using hair spray to keep everything in place. Also, you can use a brush like the Olivia Garden Ceramic + Ion Mega Thermal Round Brush to help decrease frizz and add shine. This brush will distribute your hair’s natural oils in order to add shine and complete the look of this sassy fall hair trend.

Look from the Fall 2012 BCBG fashion show

Straight, low-volume hair will be another big trend this coming season. To achieve this look, you’ll need your trusty flat iron. Perfectly ironed locks will set the tone for fall hair fashion. But if you want to get your hair as straight as possible, try a keratin treatment. Keratin treatments like One N Only's Brazilian Tech Keratin Treatment will work to reduce frizz and keep your hair healthy and straight for up to 3 months. While lots of body still looks good, sleek and straight will be the bigger choice this fall.

Look from the Fall 2012 Alexander Wang fashion show

You've still got a little bit of time left this summer to rock your beachy waves but now you’re prepared for what is to come this fall in hair trends!

DIY Saran Wrap Nails

Here’s a fun and easy DIY nail art tutorial for creating marble nails. All you need is saran wrap and your two favorite nail polish colors!

1.       Choose two nail polish colors and pre-cut 10 small pieces of saran wrap and crumble them.
2.       Apply the first color to the base of your nail (typically a lighter color). Apply a second coat if needed.
3.       Once the first color has completely dried, apply the second color (only one coat).
4.       Take your crumbled saran wrap pieces and lightly dab it on your nail. This will create a cool, marble looking effect.
5.       Repeat steps on desired nails.
6.       If you get excess polish on the sides of your nails, simply use a small Q-Tip dipped in nail polish remover and clean up the edges. However, to avoid this, try taping the edges of your nails before you begin painting and remove the tape once the painting process is completed.
7.       Once your nails are dry, seal it with a top coat

Then, your nails should look like this:

The Science of Straightening Hair

We’re all aware that a flat iron is a device made of two hot plates assembled together in order to straighten the hair. But have you ever wondered how a flat iron really works?
Hair is made up of keratin, a strong protein that is also found in skin and nails. Keratin and other proteins like sulfur and amino acids contribute to the overall strength of the hair. This means that the atoms conjoin together to form a bond ensuring that the shape of the hair fibers stay the same. It is almost as if a microscopic army sets up camp in your hair, holds hands and doesn’t let go. The army of atoms then forms a wall and this wall forms the structure of your hair, making it either curly or frizzy.

However, to break down that wall and achieve straight hair, a flat iron can be used. Flat irons are used at extreme heats, often between 300 and 500 degrees. The heat from the flat iron works to break the bond between atoms. When the heat from the flat iron hits the hair, the keratin proteins are forced to reposition themselves, in turn hair can go from curly or frizzy to straight within minutes. With this process, it is almost as if an uncomfortable force is attacking that hand-in-hand army and in order to get comfortable again, they must readjust their positions. The new position results in the army of atoms lying flat so that hair is straightened.

By using a flat iron, your hair becomes straight but this is not a permanent method of hair straightening since natural effects like exposure to moisture can turn hair back to its original state. But using a flat iron is the most common and easiest way to achieve straight hair.
Now that you know the science of straight hair, go forth and fight that army of atoms and visit for our selection of flat irons

Benefits of Gel Nails vs. Acrylic Nails

By now you know that gel nails are a superb alternative to acrylic nails or basic manicures. The most important fact about gel nails you have been introduced to is that they are long lasting, surviving weeks with no chipping. But just in case you were wondering, there are several other benefits to switching to gel nails. We’ve compiled a list of reasons we love gel nails and why you should too!

Gel nails look natural – A special base coat is applied and cured to your actual nail creating a natural and healthy look. No artificial nail pieces are needed to achieve gel nails. And as a result, gel nails can be worn with or without polish.

Gel nails are easy to do at home - All you need is the Lomasi gel nails home manicure kit! It comes with all of the tools you need to get salon-like gel nails but in the comfort of your own home.

Gel nails dry quicker – Because a special UV or LED light is used to cure the gel polishes, gel nails cut down on drying time.

With gel nails you can use regular polish or gel polish – As we stated before, a special base coat is applied creating the gel affect. After the clear base coat is cured, then the color polish can be put on. As long as you are using the special gel nails base coat, then any polish can be applied –gel or traditional nail polish.

Gel nails strengthen and condition natural nails – Unlike acrylic nails, your nails don’t need to be filed and buffed. This gives your nails the opportunity to grow and strengthen within two weeks.

Hundreds of color options – Although you can use regular nail polish while still achieving gel nails, companies like Gelish and Lomasi have created hundreds of color options to give you the best looking and best colored gel nails out there. Plus you can get artsy with it and get your gel nails with creative nail art.

The removal process is easy – Removing gel nails does not harm or damage your natural nails. All you have to do is use a gel nail polish remover and a nail stick tool to remove the excess gel. It’s quick, simple and painless.

We hope we dropped a little knowledge on you, so go and spread the word by filling your friends in on these benefits.

Skin and Hair Care Products Perfect for the Summer

While we may believe water is the purest thing on Earth, we must think again. Water harbors harmful minerals that may contribute to long-term hair and skin damage.  However, Malibu products were created specially to cleanse your skin and hair of these impurities. Malibu’s powerful vitamin complex gently removes damaging toxins and unwanted residue. As a result, hair becomes shinier and full of life while skin appears smoother, softer and more luminous.

Perfect for the summer, Malibu will become your favorite product brand as you spend lots of time in chlorine water from pools, salt water from the ocean and of course, in the shower. With that, Malibu has a full line of shampoos, conditioners and skin care products that are 100% vegan. As Malibu products are vegan, this means there are no harsh chemicals and most importantly, no use of animal products.  Plus, Malibu is environmentally conscious and has created its products with eco-friendly packaging.
Pre-existing scalp conditions like dandruff and eczema can be worsened by chemicals in water. But don’t let that stop you from hopping in the pool on your summer vacay. Condition and revive your hair with products from Malibu’s Scalp Wellness line. These products use natural ingredients to help you achieve a healthy scalp and healthy hair.
Let’s face it; we load our hair up with product all the time to get that perfectly styled look. But over time, all the buildup of products becomes damaging to your hair. This is why Malibu created clarifying shampoo. This shampoo safely and gently removes gels, oils, hair spray and mousses from your hair.
Aside from hair products, Malibu has a full line of skin care products which also are vegan.  Malibu skin care products protect your skin from the harmful effects of water and other environmental toxins that can be damaging to your skin.

Malibu Skin Care: Malibu Body Cover Moisturizer 8oz

Malibu products protect against a lot of things, and they also protect color-treated hair against harmful chemicals in the water. By using Malibu Color Wellness products you are giving your hair special treatment by allowing color to last longer and look great all while enduring summer activities.

You may feel as though you should have been born a fish because you spend so much time in the water. But don’t begin to avoid the water because it is doing things to your hair that you don’t approve of. Try Malibu Swimmers. This collection is made just for you, giving water lovers perfect hair protection from harsh chemicals that dry out or damage your hair.
For those of you who live in an area where you mainly use well water, you are aware of how rough it can be on your hair. But with this Malibu collection made specifically to help and treat hair damaged by well water, you will be very impressed. Well water can contain calcium, copper, iron and/or magnesium which can cause dry, discolored hair, but Malibu Well Water products remove unwanted minerals from you hair, leaving you with healthy, manageable hair.
